On 01-03 March 2010, the Luxembourg Centre of the European Institute of Public Administration - the European Centre for Judges and Lawyers - is organizing the workshop entitled « Public Relations, the Media and the Judiciary Relations with the Press» in Luxembourg.

This workshop provides practical advice and training for judges, prosecutors, lawyers, spokespersons and other court service personnel from the judiciary, who increasingly find themselves exposed to media coverage and who, on some occasions, also have to communicate face-to-face with journalists, e.g. to explain the initiation (or discontinuation) or conclusion of certain proceedings. Structures and approaches to managing media relations by courts in different European jurisdictions will also be discussed.

Apart from constituting a forum for the exchange of experiences and good practices, the specific objectives of the workshop are to provide:

•          practical guidance, techniques and hands-on experience on how to deliver clear concise messages about complex legal issues and cases in today’s information-laden society; and

•          an introduction to the preparation and planning to respond to crisis situations as they arise.

The workshop is divided into two modules, which – although closely linked - can be attended separately.
Module 1 lasts two days and discusses the different situations in which judges, magistrates, prosecutors and lawyers may find themselves confronted with the media, the fundamental aspects of good communication and practical advice and exercises on how to deal with journalists from different media, with particular emphasis on the written and online media. Finally, a preliminary study of structures and approaches to managing media relations by courts in different European jurisdictions will be discussed.
Module 2 lasts one day and focuses on exercising and simulating TV interviews and a press conference.
EIPA would be honored to count you among the participants. The fee for registrations is € 995 if you participate in the two modules, €695 if you participate only in the first module and €425 if you participate only in the second module.
The working language of the seminar will be ONLY English.
